Bojangles: Meet Larry

In the endless, hyper-saturated chicken sandwich wars, quick-service brands have spent years lobbing noisy claims at consumers without proving anything real. Bojangles did not just enter the fight; they ended the debate by claiming a sandwich so undeniably delicious that even a chicken would commit betrayal just to get a bite. We brought that irreverent truth to life by building Larry entirely in-house, a custom-animated mascot whose unhinged obsession proved that the South's best flavors are worth crossing every line for.

The Problem

Since the dawn of fast-food history, quick-service brands have been locked in an all-out arms race over who can claim the undisputed chicken sandwich crown. Every chain has fired off the same tired playbook: louder packaging, exaggerated crunch sounds, and bloated claims that fade into the noise. Bojangles owned the real-deal Southern flavors to back up the hype, but standing out in a crowded, exhausted category meant ditching the polite corporate script and giving the brand an audacious voice that would blow the competition out of the water.

The Insight

When it comes to true Southern food, consumers do not care about sanitized corporate puffery; they care about genuine craving. The chicken sandwich wars had reached peak absurdity, and the only way to cut through the cynicism was with pure, playful truth told with a wink. If a chicken sandwich is truly legendary, you would do literally anything to get your hands on it. Taking that conviction to its delightfully deranged extreme, the ultimate testament to irresistible flavor is a bird that wants to eat its own kind.

How We Solved It

We tapped our in-house animation team to cook up Larry, a fully CGI chicken brought to life from beak to tail with 1.8 million individual hairs, 23,150 feathers, and 107 joints engineered for remarkably lifelike motion. Across TV, streaming video, radio, and social platforms, Larry became the star of a comedy-fueled campaign driven by one tragic, hilarious conflict: he is a chicken desperately scheming to get his wings on Bojangles. By pairing world-class craft with unapologetic humor, we showed hungry fans that unrivaled flavor is always waiting at the drive-thru, unless, of course, your name is Larry.
